My Teaching Philosophy
Traditional one on one instruction has always been a successful way to teach music. The weekly lesson can create a bond between teacher and student that will encourage excellent study habits, focus, and discipline. With these skills, the student can become an excellent musician as well as become very successful in other career choices. Playing with others is a wonderful way to keep the motivation going and develops skills to listen to others and be a team player. It is also a lot of fun and builds confidence. Performing for others is also an important skill to learn as a musician. Each June, all students have the opportunity to perform in a Student Recital held at the Ocean City Arts Center.

Dr. May Strange started playing the violin professionally with the Ocean City Pops while in college and then had the opportunity to play in the Atlantic City casinos for Showroom Headliners such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Cher, Diana Ross, Dolly Parton and many more. Dr. May was the owner and director of the Music Studio in Linwood for 27 years. The Studio had nine other instructors and provided lessons for many successful young men and women. She also taught Music Appreciation courses at Atlantic Cape Community College. Presently, Dr. May continues to perform and teach and enjoys being the director of the Fiddle Club of Linwood as well as a member of the Music Studio Quartet.
